Diversity & inclusion policy.
As an individual and a business owner, I stand unequivocally against systematic white supremacy in the UK and abroad, and aim to actively work towards equity and justice for all those who suffer under this system. Simple & Season is a place that is open, safe and supporting of Black, Asian, POC, LGBTQIA and disabled people.
This policy is written as a commitment from my and my business to you. I welcome correction and additions.
COMMUNITIES
Throughout Simple & Season there are community hubs where people come together to talk – whether this is in the comments on my Instagram or the paid course groups. The voices and concerns of Black, Asian, POC, LGBTQIA and disabled people will never be censored in these groups. There is also zero tolerance of hate speech, micro-aggressions, othering or language and behaviour that ostracises. Zero tolerance means that anyone committing these offences will be immediately removed and blocked from all Simple & Season spaces. As in law, I will defer to the victim when making these decisions and stand beside them wholeheartedly.
SPEAKING AND BRAND CAMPAIGNS
I will never speak at an event or take part in a brand campaign that is not representative or inclusive. Brands and organisers must disclose their speaker/influencer list and must also confirm that all Black, Asian, POC, LGBTQIA and disabled people are being being equally with their white, straight, able-bodied counterparts. I will always refuse to work with a brand or event that does not meet this criteria, and I will always suggest more diverse people for them to work with instead.
AMPLIFICATION ON SIMPLE & SEASON CHANNELS
Grow With Soul is my furthest reaching platform, and as such is the most effective place for me to amplify Black, Asian, POC, LGBTQIA and disabled voices. I commit to ensuring inclusion and diversity on the podcast by ensuring that everyone will hear a voice and experience that sounds like theirs. This means that for every white guest on the podcast, I commit to inviting a Black, Asian, POC guest too, as well as ensuring that LGBTQIA and disabled people are also frequently represented.
I also commit to sharing the work of diverse voices across my other channels, including my newsletter, blog and Instagram. This includes ensuring that resource lists include Black, Asian, POC, LGBTQIA and disabled businesses and viewpoints and sharing anti-racism teachers and resources. I also commit to frequently sharing ways in which people can support racial and social justice causes (petitions, writing to representatives, donations etc).
EMPLOYMENT AND THIRD PARTY SERVICES
Simple & Season is not an employer, however I commit to equal opportunities when it comes to the selection of third party service providers, and demanding that service providers are themselves diverse and inclusive.
SPREAD THE WEALTH
I commit to working towards a financial structure for Simple & Season whereby regular donations to organisations are built into the business, formalising the previously ad hoc system. I will update this policy as this becomes reality.
